PIPELINE FITTER


LOCATION:

Key responsibilities:

  • Installation and installation of marine pipelines:

  • Assembly, fitting and installation of piping systems on vessels, offshore platforms and other structures related to the marine industry.

  • Working with different pipe materials (e.g. carbon steel, stainless steel, copper, PVC) and using different joining methods (e.g. welding, tapping, twisting) to ensure tight and durable systems.

  • Installation of piping systems for applications such as fuel, water, HVAC and other systems critical to marine vessel operations.

 

Interpretation of technical drawings and specifications:

  • Reading and interpreting detailed technical drawings, isometric drawings and installation specifications, especially in the context of marine equipment.

  • Work based on shipyard plans and diagrams to ensure accurate layout and installation of piping systems.

  • Use of pipe laying tools (e.g. spirit levels, protractors, measuring devices) to precisely fit and install pipes in the unit structure.

 

Quality Control & Inspection:

  • Inspect installed pipe, flange and fitting connections for design compliance, tightness and integrity.

  • Perform hydrostatic and pneumatic tests on installed systems to check tightness and pressure resistance.

  • Routine inspections during installation to ensure that piping systems comply with high quality standards and marine regulations.

 

Troubleshooting and adaptation:

  • Identify and troubleshoot matching or alignment issues that may occur during installation.

  • Use problem-solving skills to deal with challenges related to limited space, angles, and configurations typical of marine environments.

  • Propose and implement solutions for complex piping system layouts and configurations that require high precision.

 

Compliance with safety rules and maritime regulations:

  • Strict adherence to safety protocols specific to the maritime industry, including the correct use of personal protective equipment (PPE), confined space procedures and work at height.

  • Compliance with marine safety regulations, including rules for fire prevention, handling of hazardous materials, and safe installation of pipes in key areas of the vessel.

  • Ensuring compliance with all marine industry safety standards during installation and throughout the project lifecycle.

 

Collaboration and communication:

  • Work closely with engineers, marine inspectors, project managers, and other team members to smoothly complete the tasks related to the equipment of the vessels.

  • Clear and effective communication with supervisors about work progress, challenges and safety issues.

  • Coordination with other professionals (e.g. electricians, welders) for timely and accurate installation of integrated systems.

 

Working conditions:

  • Work in marine environments, including shipyards, offshore platforms, or vessels.

  • Work in confined spaces, at heights and sometimes in harsh weather or environmental conditions.

  • Personal protective equipment (PPE) is required, including helmets, gloves, safety footwear, eye and hearing protection.

  • Possible exposure to hazardous materials, heavy equipment and working at height.


Technical proficiency in marine equipment:

  • Proven experience in installing and fitting piping systems for vessels and offshore platforms, including fuel, HVAC, freshwater, and ballast systems.

  • Knowledge of a variety of pipe materials such as carbon steel, stainless steel, copper and PVC.

  • Proficiency in various joining techniques such as welding, threading and twisting, especially in marine applications.

 

Certificates:

  • Important certifications such as NCCER Pipefitting, ASME B31.3, Georg Fischer training, or other industry-specific certifications.

  • Knowledge of marine industry standards such as ISO 9001, ABS (American Bureau of Shipping) regulations, and IMO (International Maritime Organization) codes will be an asset.

  • Additional offshore and offshore certifications (e.g., confined spaces, offshore safety, welding certifications) will be welcome.

 

Experience:

  • 3-5 years of experience in pipeline installation, preferably in marine equipment or offshore construction industry.

  • Experience working on vessels or offshore structures (oil rigs, ships, offshore platforms) is highly preferred.

  • Knowledge of high-specification piping systems and safety-critical installations is essential.

 

Quality Control & Inspection:

  • Ability to inspect pipe, flange and fitting joints for tightness, alignment and integrity.

  • Knowledge of testing methods, such as hydrostatic and pneumatic testing, to check the leakage of installed systems.

  • Knowledge of safety rules:

  • Strong understanding of safety protocols related to marine equipment, including the use of personal protective equipment (PPE), working in confined spaces, at height, and with hazardous materials.

  • Ability to follow safety procedures and maintain a safe working environment, managing the unique challenges of the marine industry.

 

Physical Endurance and Problem Solving:

  • The physical strength and fitness necessary to perform assembly tasks, including lifting, bending, and working in tight or elevated spaces.

  • Strong problem-solving skills, especially when working with complex piping systems in confined space or in unique
